Denizen Gallery: Brachman and LaGrave at Milepost 5

Brachman and LaGrave at Milepost 5 explores the abstract art work of two community members: Srule Brachman and Karen LaGrave. Both work with vibrant palettes and individually explore the space between representation and abstract expressionism.

Gallery 5: Sorting Things Out, Wynde Dyer
Show closes: March 2nd to April 28th
Artist-in-session: Fridays and Saturdays, noon-6pm
Artist Talk: Wednesday, April 18th, 7pm

Wynde Dyer’s process-based installation, Sorting Things Out, questions the utility—or futility—of pondering the past for answers to present problems and future directions. Working from an art-therapeutic perspective, Dyer will shred 1000’s of her childhood and adolescent photos into tiny 1-inch x 1/8-inch pieces strewn out across the gallery floors. Over the course of the two-month exhibit, she will sort the shredded pieces by color value and texture gradient, using the pieces to create new works evocative of the repressed memories conjured up during the experience. The time and tedium of this process acts, for Dyer, as a physical embodiment of psychodynamic processes. On Fridays and Saturdays from 12-6 p.m. public is invited to observe the work in progress via surveillance cameras outside the gallery, or to step inside and participate actively.

Post5 Theatre will be following up its summer debut of Romeo & Juliet with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged]. Written and originally performed by Adam Long, David Singer, and Jess Winfield, the show attempts to perform, recap, summarize or (occasionally) simply mention each and every one of Shakespeare’s 37 plays in under 120 minutes. High-energy, tongue-in-cheek, and highly irreverent, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged] was London’s longest-running comedy, running for ten years at the Criterion Theatre in the West End.
