Milepost Fivers
Having opened phase one (The Lofts) in 2009 and phase two (The Studios) in 2010, Milepost 5 is currently occupied at 100% capacity with a waiting list.
We have 173 live/work and work spaces (with a mix of owners and renters, individuals and small businesses). Residents practice over 25 creative disciplines of visual arts, writing, design, performance, and more. Tenants include an art supply store (Muse Art + Design), writing lab (Crow Arts Manor), theater troupe (Post 5 Theater), arts / crafts shops (Handmade Local Market, The Stone Muse), massage and wholistic health practitioners, chefs, a few design studios, and even a full swing band (The Stolen Sweets). Milepost 5‘s community programming includes a dedicated Creative Director position that coordinates and promotes the curriculum.
The Milepost 5 campus includes three art galleries opening more than 20 shows per year (mostly focused on resident-created art and resident-curated exhibits), indoor and outdoor meeting- performance- and community- spaces, two community gardens, a community activity and meeting room, two community kitchens, a community deck with a beautiful sunset view, and a community shop space.

Leaf Castings, Professional Tassel Designer, Beginning Calligraphy Teacher
Bio: Born & raised in Portland Oregon. Have ventured outside the United States to go to India for a tassel designing business trip. While there I caught the travel bug. I believe I have tried just about every kind of arts & crafts there ever was. You see I grew up in the 60′s. I never was interested in taking drugs. I always got “high” on Art! Between marriage, children, illness and life in general there has always been art! Now I am no longer “between” art! I have happily completely crossed over TO ART!

Kate Fenker began her professional career as a painter in Portland, OR, then again as an entertainer and glam-folk artist in San Francisco, performing with musical theater group Enrique, and encrusting consumer products with sequins. Next, Fenker moved to New York, where she worked with fashion designer Zaldy. Her designs have been worn by luminaries such as Gwen Stefani, Rufus Wainwright, Antony, and RuPaul, and her handcrafted accessories have been featured in W and Vogue magazines. [read more]
Painter and Writer
Bio: Painting has been part of my life since high school. I studied painting with Gaylen Hansen at WashingtonState University and completed a Bachelors of Fine Arts. Sandy Roumagoux is my current mentor whoalso loves Gaylen Hansen’s work. Many others have influenced my painting over the years. My recentwork is oil on prepared printmaking paper. I also love writing and have written several short storiesand poems.
The past decade has been my most active time of exhibiting and selling work. Currently I am mostly working rather than showing. I’m using my studio and gallery spaces to show others work but I’m always open to looking at and sharing my work with others on a casual basis. [read more]
Painter
Bio: Cindy Baker was born in Houston Texas from a family of artists. Among the early and lasting influences were the old masters that her mother also a painter, had a keen interest in. As a child weekly classes at the Houston museum of fine arts was part of her regular routine. Cindy attended college studying Fine Arts, outside Seattle Washington followed by two years in St. Louis Missouri at a small private college. Cindy moved back to the Pacific Northwest in the late ’70′s, were until a few years ago she was able to continue to develop her passion for painting in oil and acrylic. [read more]
